Trying something new

I was reading through The Artist's Way, and I came across something interesting. I wasn't actually reading it. I was leafing through it. Either way, I still saw something that caught my attention. There was a heading in there that said to put yourself in "Reading Deprivation." Oh... However, within that deprivation, it included everything. TV, computers, video games, and reading. And you know what? That has probably been my biggest problem this NaNo.

Every morning, I power up Facebook, Writing.com, NaNoWriMo.org, and Twitter. Then, for the past 24 hours on top of that, I read Jenna Starborn. I highly recommend that book, by the way. A great sci-fi twist on a classic. ;-) That aside, let me know where writing fits anywhere in that mess of stuff I start. Yeah. It doesn't.

So, I'm going to attempt to make a deal with myself. I'm going to "unplug" for the next 24-48 hours and see what happens. Every night before midnight, I will give myself the 'privilege' of updating my word count on the NaNo site. I am giving myself the right to listen to music, but the wifi function on my new ZuneHD is to be disabled, and no playing games on it! This will count as today's post, but I'll swing by tomorrow and give an update on how things are working out.

Crazy how unnerving the thought of "unplugging" and "deprivation" can be on a person. I'm guessing I'll meander around for a bit like a lost puppy. I'll probably end up doing some laundry and getting the dishes done. Both are admirable things that take up very little time. When that's done, I'll have nothing better to do than write. Well, probably should throw a shower in there somewhere. :-D

Here I go! I'm going to unplug now. Wish me luck and I'll see you tomorrow.
